Tree removal update

During our recent tree removal program we identified a total of 24 loquat trees in the Koraleigh Irrigation Trust area and Koraleigh township. Seven of those trees have now been permanently removed.

Of the remaining 17 loquat trees, 4 have not fruited this season, or have had the immature fruits removed. Four loquat trees will be covered with insect exclusion netting, and the remainder belong to residents who pick and eat their fruit and will therefore be monitoring for any signs of infestation.

BKIT will work closely with those residents who have loquat trees, to monitor their trees and provide assistance, should the fruit come under attack from Qfly.

If you have a loquat tree, keep an eye on our page as we post updates on management tools to avoid your tree becoming the one that enables a new generation of fruit flies to become established. A bit of work now may be just what is needed to protect summer fruits in our area!
